Fourth of July
Description
This Independence Day Parade of 1884 includes a bandwagon of rather unique style-actually a broomcorn wagon whose characteristic flared style lent itself well to the needs of occasion.
The photo was taken at the corner of Broadway and Main. The brick building at center rear is the original light plant. The large two-story frame building was a millinery shop. You may note a "Gazette Office" sign attached to a telephone pole at the extreme left. This indicated the location of what was for years The Bulletin office, 105 South Broadway.
The large banner on the lead horse is that of the Bellvue Alliance, one of the early branches of the Farmer's Alliance, a populist affiliate. This was the year Grover Cleveland was elected to the Presidency.
